What is ALF Therapy?

A(Advanced) L(LIGHTWIRE) F(Functional): ALF

The ALF appliance and ALF Therapy were developed by Dr. Darick Nordstrom when he started asking the simple yet profound question as he practiced Orthodontics in the early 1980’s.

“Why do some orthodontic techniques create synergy with the body and others create obstacles to health and function?”

Dr. Nordstrom was a devoted student of Osteopathy and Acupuncture from early on and this allowed him to look at the question from a perspective other than only the conventional orthodontic training and mindset.

Dr. Nordstrom started working with various methods to create and improve overall health and function for the patient during the orthodontic process; working side by side with an osteopath, he created a family of dental appliances made with a specific wire that mimics nature’s function.

The ALF appliance is a deceptively simple yet sophisticated dental appliance which does more than just expanding or straightening the teeth. The family of ALF appliances use gentle, rhythmic, and physiological forces that  have far reaching effects on the Autonomic Nervous System, brain function, and the rest of the body.

Gentle yet powerful is the ethos of ALF Therapy. Many therapists and dentists have reported results of the properly adjusted ALF appliances as a miracle, something not attainable with other orthodontic appliances or methods.

Wearing the ALF appliance is like doing 24-hour Neuromyofunctional work without forcing the individuals.

The ALF appliance has been developed in concert with many other supportive therapies, including: Osteopathy, Physical Therapy, Myofunctional Therapy, Breathing education, Cranial Nerve balancing, Movement Therapy, Endobiogeny, and Reflex Therapy just to name a few.

We now have a global community of like-minded professionals who are passionate about helping patients to find true HEALTH, and achieve a true sense of self and not least, find “Beauty that is harmonious with function.”

ALF Therapy utilizes the ALF appliance along with a combination of many other treatment modalities to create a team of holistic support for the patient. The Team Approach is highly appreciated in comprehensive patient care with ALF Therapy.

In addition to the ALF device, Dr. Nordstrom developed Oralase Technique to support ALF therapy.

At KSAT, we are developing a program where like-minded practitioners can learn from the solid foundation of ALF Therapy: Coming to Korea in 2025.
